Spring has Sprung

Now that spring is here, it can only mean one thing: the tourists are back. Don't get me wrong - I love the tourists. Please come visit my fair city and spend your hard-earned dollars here (unless you are one of the ones who stand in front of the Metro turnstiles and prevent me from getting through, effectively making me miss my train, or block the egresses in the train with your ginormous strollers). But I can't seem to wrap my head around the things tourists decide to take pictures of....like the mile high escalators at some of the Metro stations, or the Metro trains themselves. I'm sure if I was a visitor, I too would want a picture of a failing transportation system that can't even guarantee I will get to work on time (or even just at the same time) every day. Forget about the monuments - I want to take a picture of the map showing me where on the National Mall I can find those monuments. Obviously, tons more exciting. Anyway, definitely have noticed an influx of people in the last few weeks (not least of which due to the cherry blossoms), and I can't wait for intern season, mostly because at least this year I have a paying job with benefits and don't have to intern.

Speaking of the office, have you ever noticed difficulties in turning off the work speak? For example, sometimes when composing personal emails (during my lunch break, of course) I often find myself lapsing into my "young professional" writing style: "Dear Mom, Thanks for checking in with me regarding the status of my taxes. Unfortunately, at this time I cannot provide you with the documents you have requested. Should you require further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me."

My other office gripe is the recording of the voicemail message. Right now, I think my outgoing message is blank - I forgot to record a message. I just feel so ridiculous talking in to the phone, trying to find the right pitch and sentence structure that command the appropriate level of gravitas (because I really have a ton of that).

Anyway, not too much else is going on besides working and studying. I am trying to reincorporate working out back in to my life - I swam both days this weekend and I feel great. Otherwise, I've just been eating, breathing, and, unfortunately sleeping, both work and the LSATs (let me tell you - I have been having some crazy dreams!!). My scores are continuing to improve, slowly but surely, so that is giving me motivation to soldier onwards. And I'm already halfway through the class...which could be good, but also is scary!!! But so looking forward to planning some fun vacations, and not having to work as much over the summer.
